The man whose stewardship rebuilt Hewlett-Packard to become the biggest technology organization was forced to leave the company on Friday. Hewlett-Packard (HP) CEO Mark Hurd tendered his resignation in the aftermath of sexual harassment allegations against him.
Results of the HP investigation drew to a conclusion that Hurd did not violate company sexual harassment policies but he violated business conduct policies based on company standards. The woman involved in the case was a contract worker with HP.
Hurd and the woman reportedly dine together on several occasions but Hurd denied ever having any sexual relationship with her. However, investigations uncovered that Hurd falsified numerous expenses that HP did not specify. Hurd admitted guilt to these accusations in a statement from HP. In the end, the HP organization decided that Hurd had to leave the company.
Hurd led HP into leading the global PC marketplace after the merger with then competitor Compaq. This happened during Carly Fiorina’s tenure as business leader. Hurd was subsequently hired as HP CEO after dissatisfaction within the HP board relating to the merger between HP and Compaq.
